During the EU Fresh Info Forum on 29 November, 10 Masters students from Erasmus University Rotterdam were present at the invitation of the Rotterdam Food Cluster. With the theme ‘Tsunami of Technology’ and lectures on big data, robotics, artificial intelligence, drones and blockchain, many opportunities for the food sector arose at the World Horti Center. Representatives from leading international food and technology companies gave an insight into their technological innovations. This gave the students a good view of career prospects in the food sector.
Students consider career in food sector
The Supply Chain Management and Innovation Management students were introduced to leading food companies and were pleasantly surprised by the many career opportunities within the food sector. There was plenty of opportunity for networking with companies such as Rijk Zwaan, The Greenery and Capespan. As part of the day programme, Jumbo gave an insight into their digitisation and MEP Jan Huitema spoke about his vision for the relationship between technology and policy. In addition, various sessions covered topics such as blockchain, robotics, artificial intelligence and drone applications in detail. This demonstrates that the food sector is a very broad and appealing field of work for students. The students came away very enthusiastic about the food sector and indicated that they would certainly consider a career in this sector.
